Hey, Just catching up as I’ve got a few days off between dates. It’s been great to get out doing some more shows and they’ve all been great but I have to give a special shout out to San Diego, man, that town loves The Cult and we had 10,000 out to see us at Del Mar Racetrack which was fantastic. Also getting to the show was a highlight due to my exciting flight down in a small one engine plane piloted by ‘Biggles’ Stevenson! James has been taking flying lessons and his instructor rented a plane in LA then… Read the full article.
Ever had a question for me… but been afraid to ask?
Hi, May was a great month for me as many of you know its was my birthday and I had the best present of all in seeing my hometown football team, Manchester City, win the English Premier League for the second time in just three years! Also the 20th was really special as it marked the 30th anniversary of a landmark night in my career when I played at The Lyceum in London with the Cult in a show that was recorded and later released as a live album. On the anniversary on my Facebook page I asked for your… Read the full article.
‘Cultchella’, desert racing and hanging with lots of pals!
So it’s been a busy April and great to be back playing live again. The Cult gigs that we did on our own were just as much fun as last year and I hope we can do many more shows this year because the band seems really on fire at the moment. I had been worried that we might be a bit rusty but the amount of touring that we did last year really helped and everything felt really good. The two shows at Coachella were great as they gave us a chance to play to a different audience, not… Read the full article.
Back on the road…
Hey, Well the first quarter of 2014 seems to have flown by and when the first dates of the year were booked for The Cult they seemed so far away and now here I am in rehearsals and getting ready to hit the road again. Those of you who follow my updates know that I have a real soft spot for San Francisco so it’s great to kick it all off there this week. Then after shows at the Phoenix Bikefest and San Diego we have our two nights at ‘Cultchella’! There are more dates following that and you can… Read the full article.
Benefit for my pal Kerry Simon…
“This week (27th Feb.) I was really pleased to be asked along to perform at a benefit for my pal Kerry Simon, the ‘Rock n Roll’ chef. The event ‘Kerry Simon says Fight MSA’ took place at the amazing Frank Geary designed building in the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health’ and was sold out at $1000 a ticket! The gig featured Alice Cooper, Sammy Hagar, Slash, Vince Neil, Matt Sorum,Todd Rungdren and me and raised a stack of cash and awareness in the fight against Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). The after party was at Kerry’s eatery ‘SIMON’… Read the full article.
Kicking off 2014…
Hey, I hope you all had a great break over the Holidays, I know that I did and it was just what I needed to recharge the batteries after all the touring that made up ‘Electric 13’. I’ve taken some time out enjoying the warm California sun, riding my bike and playing football (soccer to some of you) but now it’s time to get back to the serious business. I’m currently working with Ian on new songs for the next album. I love the whole creative process of making new music, its hard work but really rewarding when it all… Read the full article.
Culto al fútbol…
This is the English translation of an interview that appeared in the February 2014 issue of Spanish Football magazine Panenka. THE CULT OF FOOTBALL The Cult, the iconic hard rock band, has a guitarist who can compete with the Gallagher brothers for the title of Manchester City’s number 1 musician supporter. His name is Billy Duffy and lives a sunny exile in Los Angeles missing his club and playing, along with other celebrities of the British music scene, for teams like Hollywood United. What does football mean to you? BD; “That’s a metaphysical question to kick off with… so for… Read the full article.
2013 The Year of the Falcon…
With the 2013 drawing to a close I have to say that it’s been a great year but also a year of two halves. The early part of the year was all about the Falcon and from the summer onwards it was all about touring ‘Electric 13’. The Falcon… I’ve talked a lot about Gretsch producing my Signature version of their iconic White Falcon guitar but it’s almost impossible to put into words how proud I’ve been to see my name on that guitar. After originally falling in love with it over 30 years ago and playing one for my… Read the full article.
Back after the break…
“I’m now halfway through a three week break before hitting the road again with the band for the last set of ‘Electric 13’ shows to wrap up 2013. This break has been timed to co-incide with Thanksgiving (which is a really big thing over here in the States) so that everyone in the band and crew gets chance to spend the time with their families over the holiday. Just like the States and Australia I really had a lot of fun playing the shows in Europe especially Britain. Over the last few years it feels like there’s been a resurgence… Read the full article.
Greetings from down under!
G’Day! I’m writing this on a day off in Sydney and it’s weird as I’ve been here nearly a week and only done two gigs, infact of the time I’ve been here I’ve spent over 24 hours flying. This Australian tour is all about airports and super friendly Virgin staff, a lot of hotel rooms and a lot of time alone. This is is totally different from how it was on the ‘Electric 13’ American tour and how it will be on the British one coming up later this month because on those we’re all together on the tour bus,… Read the full article.
